F. Missionary in Florida. Patiently, with an open Bible the worker focused upon the need for peace in the human heart Then pointing out some of the 333 prophecies about the Messiah, which were fulfilled in Jesus, he turned to Isaiah 53. RESPONSE The Jewish man read of the one who was “ wounded for our transgressions” . . . and by whose stripes “ we are healed." Amazed that this was not the New Testament, but his own Jewish prophet Isaiah, his preju dice was overcome. He found his own condition portrayed. (continued from page 7) Of course the other tragic devel opment which began to bear effective fruit in the life of the country was that system of theology known as modernism or liberalism which mani fests itself today in the various “ neos” of which we are presently hearing so much. The Word of God is full of the concept of man’s respon sibility first toward God and then toward his fellows. But this phase of Scripture truth has long since been by-passed by the liberal ele ment in our great denominations. In stead of hearing “ thus saith the Lord,” all we hear from this seg ment of Christendom is the subject of civil rights, freedom of speech, freedom of action, criticism of any and all who endeavor to emphasize the great truths of God’s Word in cluding the concept of the individ ual’s moral and spiritual responsi bility toward God and his fellow men. It would appear that it is almost too late to turn back the clock in connection with this scriptural type of teaching. But, perhaps if we pray diligently and make our voices loud enough, both individually and col lectively, we can at least stay the onward rush of a trend which, un less checked, can lead only to an other period of “ the dark ages.” The bright and hopeful alternative to this dark picture is that the Lord Jesus Christ will come again soon to straighten out the mess into which man has willfully but unthinkingly submerged himself.
