The work she did to find and catalog hundreds of thousands of stars pushed astronomy forward and helped guide countless sci- entists to make greater discoveries in the universe. The more astronomy Annie did, the more honors came her way. She was made a member of Britain’s Royal Astronomical Society and was the first woman to receive a doctorate of science degree from Oxford University. There is even a crater on the moon named after her. Today, women who make the most distinguished contributions to the science of astronomy can win the Annie Jump Cannon Award, a prize started by Annie herself.
