He effectively got his ideas across to others using his ability to commu- nicate – a trait you share with him. And because he truly believed what he was doing, he found it easy to use his persuasion . Without a doubt, his confidence came from a combination of his cour- age and enterprise . He was not afraid to try the unknown and do things others considered impossible – two characteristics you can adopt and develop. Read through his story again and you find more inborn traits you have in common with him, from individualism to idealism . Dreaming of and creating personal computers anyone could use meant Douglas had to overcome his fear of failure – his willingness to take chances . You will learn much more about this trait in the next story. “ Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson TO BE A GENIUS How did Douglas’s excitement encourage others to cooperate with him? How did his belief that things would turn out well help him succeed? In what ways did he not hold back? What are you excited about?
