Norman was happy with the results but having seeds that grew only in the unique soil and climate of the Bajĩo region was not good enough. What about the other wheat-growing regions in the country, the Sonora in the northwest and La Laguna to the north? If he developed a variety that could work throughout Mexico, the whole country could feed itself. But even that wasn’t enough. He knew there were people all over the world going hungry. What if he could develop a type of disease-resistant wheat that also grew easily and in huge volume? If
he could do this, the farmers of Mexico could feed their coun- try and the hungriest people of the world. He saw the vast poten- tial of a tiny plant and a small plot of land and their benefits to millions.
