9. WILLINGNESS TO TAKE CHANCES β The Willingness to Take Chances of Norman Borlaug
His worldwide impact was significant and perhaps best stated by President Jimmy Carter, who once said about Norman, βHe saved untold millions of lives because he could see vast potential in a tiny plant and a small plot of land, to benefit multiple farmers and their hungry children.β Only five people in history have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the Congressional Gold Medal. Norman is one of those five. He appreciated these medals and awards. But without a doubt, what Norman treasured
most were the smiles he saw in the faces of the mil- lions of families who were no longer hungry and could dream of better lives.
