After the excitement of the Olympics wore off, Babe set her mind to becoming the best golfer in the world. She put in countless hours of practice: hitting long, putting short, and drilling every shot in between. In 1935, her determination paid off when she won the Women’s Texas Amateur Championship and was handed her first golf trophy. It would not be her last. Her confidence as a golfer was unmatched. More often than not, each tournament began with her telling her competitors, “The Babe’s here! Who is going to finish second?” and ended with her holding another prize. She won 10 major golf championships, accumulated 31 Ladies Professional Golf Association wins, and from 1946 - ‘47 won 14 matches in a row. She was the first woman to play on the men’s tour and the first American to win the British Ladies’ Amateur Championship.
