At a time when cars were uncommon and roads more so, Aloha became the first seventeen-year-old girl to drive the length of India. Then she drove into China, across its dusty plains, beneath its mountain slopes, and through its deep forests. It was here in the most populous country in the world that Aloha shared chocolate with children, became friends with bandits, and drove on top of the Great Wall of China.
On her 18th birthday, Aloha was honored by Russian soldiers and a brass band for being the first woman to drive to Siberia. By the time this special day was done, she waved goodbye to hundreds of new soldier friends and carried with her a new title: Honorary Colonel. On the island of Japan, she sat quietly with dozens of worship- pers standing beneath the Great Buddha statue in Kamakura and admired beautiful young geisha girls learning how to write poetry, sing, and dance in Tokyo.
