THE PERFECTIONISM OF JOSEPH WITHWORTH
Geniuses cannot tolerate mediocrity, particularly in themselves. Never be easily satisfied with yourself. Always strive to do better. PERFECTIONISM
DEFINITION Perfectionism is your inherent desire for things to be correct or perfect. For comparison, when something is mediocre it is average and ordinary or even barely ade- quate or inferior. Perfectionism is striving to make things perfect, which means they are complete to the highest degree and in every detail. WORD ORIGIN The word comes from the Latin perfectus , meaning “com- pleted” from per -, “completely” and facere , “do.” If something is perfect, it could be said to be done completely and thoroughly. 215
