As the Country Leader/Director at 3M South Africa and its Regional Channel Manager, Isdale exemplifies the blend of strategic vision, innovative thinking, and commitment to excellence that drives both corporate success and regional growth. Born and bred in Johannesburg and firmly grounded in her humble beginnings, her journey from the University of Johannesburg (UJ) to a pivotal role at 3M South Africa is a testament to her remarkable abilities – and an inspiring narrative for the UJ Alumni community. Isdale completed her Bachelor of Business Administration at the Institute of Marketing Management in 2003, and then proceeded to a BCom Honours from the University of Pretoria. She completed her one-year Programme for Management Development at the Gordon Institute of Business Science in 2010. This was followed by her Master’s degree in Business Management from the University of Johannesburg, which she completed in 2016. From UJ to corporate leadership: A journey of excellence Dawn Isdale’s connection with UJ began with a firm foundation laid in its corridors of learning, where she embraced the academic rigours and opportunities that UJ provided. Graduating with a degree that set the stage for her professional journey, Isdale distinguished herself not only through her academic achievements but also through her proactive engagement in university life. Her time at UJ was marked by a keen interest in the intersection of technology and business, a passion that would define her career trajectory. “My philosophy in life is that what you give out, you get back. Ever since I started my career back in 1989 at Sappi, I’ve had this belief that the only way to improve South Africa is to impart skills and for corporates to invest in communities,” she said. Her transition from academia to the professional realm was both seamless and strategic. Armed with a solid education and a clear vision, Isdale embarked on her career with a focus on leveraging technology to drive business growth. Her early roles involved extensive work in project management and strategic planning, setting the stage for her future leadership positions.
