BOO K R E V IEW S continued The Gospel o f Giving By Herschel H. Hobbs This series of stewardship sermons is based upon the all too common insistence that the Law of Moses, in cluding the principle of tithing, is still operative under grace. To quote: “ Let it be understood that the only law which ceased- to operate under grace was that body of regulations laid down by Moses concerning the rites and ceremonies of the Levitical system which found their final fu l fillment in the death and resurrec tion of Jesus.” Much good material on stewardship w ill be found here by the discerning reader. 146 pages: cloth; Broadman Press, Nashville, Terin.; $2.25. A Doctor’s Great Commission By Thomas A. Lambie Dr. Thomas A. Lambie — “ Tom Lambie” to thousands—was the inde fatigable medical missionary to the Moslems in A frica and Palestine. He worked at various periods with Unit ed Presbyterian Missions, the Sudan Interior Mission and other missionary agencies. The part he played in the evangelization of Ethiopia before the Italian conquest is w ell known. This is the fourth edition of the autobi ography, issued now with some en largement in commemoration of the doctor’s homegoing in 1954. The story is well-told, thrilling, touching, chal lenging. Many excerpts from his diaries and correspondence are in cluded. Lovers and collectors of mis sionary biography w ill not want to miss this book. 228 pages; cloth; Van Kampen Press, Wheaton, 111.; $3.50. The Life Of Our Lord Upon The Garth By Samuel J. Andrews Although originally published in 1862, nearly 100 years ago, Andrews’ life of Christ continues to hold its unique place among the myriad works on the same subject. This vol ume analyzes with the utmost care all aspects o f Christ’s life and work. Marcus Dods states that “ in this un assuming volume the various opinions of the best authorities are brought together, sifted, arranged, compared, and weighed; while the author’s own opinion, though never asserted with arrogance or parade, is always worthy of consideration.” The owner o f this book w ill find himself turning to it first, even though he may own several others, all of value. A valuable bio graphical introduction is contributed to this reprint by W ilbur M. Smith. 651 pages; cloth; Zondervan Publish ing House, Grand Rapids, M ich .; $5.95. END.
