A P riest Speaks His M ind "This book exhibits the kind of spirit that it will take to win those in error back to the solid foundation of the Word of God. It is informative, factual, and free from prejudice and vituperation. Its very sane approach will certainly challenge anyone who takes the time to read it thoughtfully and prayerfully. I predict that the passing of time will serve to enhance and widen appreciation for this work . . . ”— Dr. John P. MacArthur. University Presidents, Deans, Professors; Religious Leaders, Statesmen and leaders in many professions have hailed this book as one of the most dynamic of its kind ever to come off the press. A former well-known Roman Catholic priest tells just why he re turned to the Protestant Faith of His Fathers. He deals extensively with the involvement of Church and State. Reviewed in The Sunday School Times; Baptist and Reflector; Home Missions; Eternity; and other nationally known publications. Obtainable from bookstores or from the author — REV. W . E. R. O’GORMAN, P.O. Box 1053, Glendale 5, Calif. — 192 pp. paper (imitation leatherette) — $2.25 postpaid —

Chapter 5 of Luke’s gospel is remark able for its presentation of the busy and varied ministry of the Son of Man. From beginning to close the Master is engaged in a powerful and varied ministry — the miraculous draught of fishes, healing of the leper and the paralytic, the calling of Levi and the parables of the garment and the bottles. There is never a dull moment in this chapter. Two of these ministries will be our subject today. Power Over Disease w . 12-15 The man mentioned in this passage not only had a dread disease hut he was “ full” of it. It was a fully developed case. But there is no case too difficult for the Lord Jesus. Many think of leprosy as a type of sin. It suggests that there is no sinful man too difficult for Christ to save if he w ill hut turn to the Saviour. Note that the leper of our passage “ fell on his face” before Jesus, suggesting worship. More than this, he had remarkable faith in the power of Christ to heal—- ‘‘thou canst make me clean.” Jesus responded quickly to this man’s faith and the lep rosy departed from him (v. 13). Note the word immediately. When the proper conditions are met, Jesus manifests His power and grace. This applies in the spiritual realm today. If men will obey the gospel, Christ will save immediately. Jesus recognized the ceremonial system which was still in operation and thus directed the healed man to show himself to the priest “ to receive a certificate showing his cleansing, like our release from quarantine” (Lev. 13:39; 14:2-32, Robertson). God’s dealing with sinful man is based upon sacrifice. Call to Salvation and Service w . 27-32 The subject of this section is more often known by the name Matthew. He is so called in Matthew 9:9. Then his name lives on primarily by the Gospel of Matthew which he wrote. This man is a splendid illustration of the right attitude man should take toward Christ. When he heard the call of Christ he did not Lesson material is based upon out lines of the International Sunday School lessons copyrighted by the Division of Christian Education of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the United States of America.
