King's Business - 1955-10

SUNDAY SCHOOL continued is located in central Palestine, not far from Nazareth and Mount Tabor. It is nowhere else mentioned in the Scriptures. Jesus and a large group of Eds disciples visited this city and came in contact with an experience common to men everywhere. There was a funeral proces sion. Jesus was especially attracted to this procession because the dead man was “ the only son of his mother” who was a widow (v. 12). Doubtless the mother had been dependent upon her son for help, since she had no husband. But now her help was gone. Jesus’ heart went out to her in sympathy. Before she said any thing to Him, He began to minister for her welfare. He hade her tears to cease (v. 13). He “ touched” the casket and spoke to the young man in terms of life (v. 14), with the result that “ he sat up and began to speak” (v. 15). In this story it ought to be noted that the Lord Jesus Christ is ready to help needy folk even before they call upon Him. Oft- times He brings the restoring “ touch” when it is least expected. Power Over Other Enemies vv. 18-23 John the Baptist was in prison as the result of his righteous boldness for God. For the account of the reason for his im prisonment, one needs to turn to Mark 6:17-20. Apparently while in prison John experienced one of those times common to man when his faith needed bolstering. Was Christ, after all, everything that He claimed to be and that He Himiself had said He was? It was at this time that he sent two of his disciples to ask Jesus con cerning His person. Here is a good lesson for all of us. When in trouble or doubt, go direct to Jesus to get the solution. Don’t seek any substitutes. The question John’s disciples asked Jesus was: “Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?” (v. 20). Jesus bade them return to John, after having witnessed more of His heal ing power, to' tell him what they had seen and heard (v. 22). He was contin ually doing the work of the Messiah. He was fulfilling the prophecies concerning the Messiah. Therefore the only conclu sion he could reach was that He was the Messiah. John surely must have believed what his messengers told him in view of the remarkable testimony Jesus gave con cerning him (v. 28). Helps for the Children Signs of Jesus' Power Luke 7; 8:22-56 MEMORY VERSE: ". . . Jesus went about doing good . . . for God was with him . . ." (Acts 10:38). Sometimes the Lord Jesus touched those who were sick and made them well. One day the Saviour healed a man without even seeing him or being in the house where he lay ill. A servant was near death. His master loved him dearly and sent some of the leaders of the Jews to Jesus to ask Him to heal the sick servant. As Jesus came near to the house where the sick man lay, the master sent friends to Him to tell Him to just speak a word and the servant would be healed.

Hymns . . . like sermons and prayers . . . add to the blessed experience of worship. When congregations sing their favorite sacred songs, the service means much more to them. This brings them to church r egu la r ly . CHURCH SERVICE HYMNS includes every one of the na tion’s 27 best loved gospel songs and hymns— as listed by the Christian Herald magazine sur vey. These are the hymns people want to hear and sing.
