When the Saviour saw the great faith of the master, He told those around Him that He had not found such great faith before. The messengers returned to the house and found that the servant had been healed. The next day the Saviour visited the city of Nain. Near the gate of the city, Jesus and His friends met a funeral pro cession. A widow’s son had died, leaving her alone. The Lord Jesus touched the body of the young man and said to him: “ Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.” Immediately the dead man sat up and began to speak. Those who saw this miracle of raising the dead became afraid and began to praise God for the great One Who had come to them. Not only could the Saviour raise the dead and heal the sick, He stilled the waves in the midst of a storm which threatened to drown His disciples. He cast demons or devils out of a man whose mind and body Satan had possessed for many years. A ll of these miracles were signs of Jesus’ power; they were proof that He is the Son of God. Has the Lord Jesus performed a mir acle in your life by making you His child? If not, will you ask Him to cleanse you from sin and make you a child of God because you believe that He died upon the cross for your sins? Nov. 27, 1955 Spread ing the Good News Good news is to be told. Folks general ly find great joy in telling others the good news they have received. It is hard to keep from telling such news. It ought to be the same when it comes to the good news of the gospel. But how reticent so many of God’s children are when it comes to telling others about the gospel. W hy is this? Is there any justifiable rea son for not telling this Good News? The Method Used 8:1 Jesus is our example on how to do things. In this matter of preaching the kingdom of God, we note that Jesus “ went throughout every city and village.” He did not wait for people to come to Him. He went where they were. Here is a principle the Lord’s servants need to follow today. W e have no right to expect that unconverted people will come flocking to the church to hear the Word of God. Not possessing the new life, there is nothing within them to draw them to church. Good fishermen go where the fish are. Fishers of men will need to do the same in fishing for souls. Jesus says “ Go” to His disciples. The Reception Received 8:4-8 Jesus often used parables to set forth His message. A parable is an earthly story with a heavenly meaning. In the parables Jesus calls attention to something with which folks are very familiar in CONTINUED O C TO B ER , 1955 Luke 8:1, 4-8; 9:1-6 Pointers on the Lesson
