ciples left him and followed Christ. This compass, like John, is pointing steadily in one direction. Compasses, like people, do not always continue to point in the right direction. As I place this iron rod near the compass, the needle is changed from its origi nal position. The iron chain has the same effect on the compass as the iron bar.

spell the word “ Good.” LESSON: A little girl was once playing with four building blocks like these. She had just learned to spell and was seeing how many words she could make with the four blocks. “Mother,” she said, “ I can spell ‘Go’ and ‘Do’ .” “ That’s good, Mary. See whether or not you can find other words.” “ Oh, Mother, I can spell ‘Good,’ too.” “ I am glad you found that word,” said Mother. “ That was the word I hoped you would find. Mary, these four little blocks can teach us a won derful lesson, if we are w illing to learn. It is ‘Good’ to ‘Go’ and ‘Do’ the things God wants us to do. This is a lesson in obedience. If we go where God wants us to go, and do the things He wants us to do, we w ill some day hear H im say, ‘W ell done, thou good and faithful servant.’ ” In Luke 10:1,2 we read: “ After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.” The happy and successful Chris tians of all ages have desired to go and do the w ill of God. In Luke 10:8, we are told: “ And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you . . .” The success and gladness of those whom Jesus sent out is told in the 17th verse of this chapter. “ And the seventy returned again with joy, say ing, Lord, even the devils are sub ject unto us through thy name.” Those who obey the command of Christ today w ill find that it is good to go and do as he has told us we should. John, like the compass, allowed prison bars, something like this iron bar, and prison chains like this chain, to cause him to doubt that Christ was the true Messiah. Until John the Baptist was placed in jail, he had been perfectly sure that Christ was the Messiah. But when he could not see Christ at work, manifesting His power and love for the people, John doubted. Many Christians are like John. As long as things are going smoothly with them, they have no doubts; but if any kind of trouble comes their way and they cannot see God’s pur pose in it, their hearts are filled with doubts. When they are sick, they be gin to doubt. If they have a financial loss, they wonder why God has per mitted it. Because they cannot un derstand God’s dealing with them, these people are troubled and uncer tain. There is a way to fix this compass so that it is not so easily changed. This little slide on the side sets the needle in one certain position. Now the rod and chain have no effect on it. It is possible for a person to find what direction is north and set the compass accordingly before the com pass comes near the iron. The Bible tells us that we should be “ steadfast, immoveable,' always abounding in the work of the Lord.” Nov. 27, 1955 Go a n d Do G ood OBJECTS: Four nursery blocks, which
