Welcome to the eighth annual Northern Lites Red Angus production sale!
This has once again been an exciting year to be in the cattle business. Producers continue to make a profit. With these stellar prices, it is time to put some focus back into what kind of genetics will be used to further your calf crop for the coming year and we hope you look towards Northern Lites Red Angus once again to advance your herd’s potential. As NLRA continues to strive for the best genetics to provide our customers, we have made some major leaps to produce a quality product for our commercial cattlemen. Last fall we selected a handful of our best herd cows and collected embryos off of them to be implanted this spring to better advance our genetic potential. Along with some embryo work, we were able to receive individual carcass data back on not just our steers but two of our customers’ feeder steer loads as well. And the results don’t lie! Our Red Angus genetics showed they could be pushed to full performance while hanging a 1,000-pound carcass to hit the mark of 89.6% Choice or better, and converting their feed at above average predictions. We are extremely excited about this offering of bulls. We may say that every year, but this year is no exception! After exten- sive sorting not just phenotypically but genomically we are proud to offer you this set of bulls. The bulls were fed at Hould Bull Development in Malta, MT by Bruce and Lance Hould, where they were given a high roughage diet since the second week of October. Once again, we will be selling 60 commercial open replacement heifers following the bull lineup this year. The heifers were developed at Greenway Growyard in Savage, MT by the Oliver family. The heifers are fed right alongside our registered females getting a high roughage diet, gaining about 2lbs per day. Our annual production sale will take place at Glasgow Stockyards Thursday, April 2, in Glasgow, MT. The bulls and heifers will be available for viewing at the yards on April 1 all day.
