FLYING TO MACKINAC I f you prefer to fly rather than drive to Mackinac Island, light aircraft flying directly to the Island’s little airport is by far the easiest way to travel. Take the 7 minute airplane taxi from St. Ignace airport right to the Island or consider chartering a flight from several regional airports to Mackinac, or reserve a flight from your hometown right to the Island. Flying frees up much more time for your vaca- tion and less time traveling, not to mention the beautiful scenery along the way of the Island, the Great Lakes and the Mackinac Bridge. Once you fly in, arrange to have a horse-drawn taxi pick you, your luggage and your group up to take you to your hotel or destination, by calling 906-847-3323. There are not many places in the world where you can do this! If you’re traveling to Mackinac from a great distance and driving is too far or your free time is short, a commercial flight with Delta Air Line offers service from your hometown airport to CIU - CHIPPEWA COUNTY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. This quaint friendly full service facility is located near Sault Ste. Marie, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, just 30 minutes from Mackinac’s ferry docks. Car rental or shut- tle service is also available at this location to take you to the ferry boat docks. Non-stop flights are available daily from Detroit and Minneapolis.
