Size: 2,000 s/f (track), 98 ft high Advantage Engineers provided geotechnical and structural engineering, foundation and retaining wall design and construction oversight services for ‘Impulse,’ a new looping 98 feet drop steel roller coaster for Knoebels Amusement Resort. Advantage completed a subsurface field investigation including test borings and a laboratory testing program. Struc- tural engineering included design of the foundation system for the coaster. Construction observation and materials testing services included the documenta- tion of drill depths, casing and reinforcing steel in- stallation, and concrete placement for 159 drilled shafts and 16 combined caisson caps. Additionally, Advantage provided retaining wall design for two walls up to 251 feet in length. Work began in June of 2014. The roller coaster is scheduled to open in Spring of 2015.

Size: 950,000 s/f The new PPL Sports Center is home to not only the professional ice hockey team, the Phantoms, but also brand new office space, retail, restaurants, luxury apartments a Marriott hotel, and news station, WFMZ- TV. For this project, TPD conducted a comprehensive Parking Analysis to support the arena during the high- est peak period parking demands, a 16-intersection Traffic Impact Study to determine whether the exist- ing roadway infrastructure could accommodate the new traffic generated, and a 50-intersection Traffic Signal Study. TPD provided ANIZDA with recom- mendations regarding improvements for signal timing changes, updated Signal Permit Plans, wayfinding sig- nage, and creation of an event management plan.

Size: 92,000 s/f The New Jersey Turnpike Authority is replacing (4) four prototypical state police facilities. Two facilities are located on the NJ State Parkway and two on the NJ Turnpike. The barracks are being built to LEED standards. Cost of construction for all four buildings is approximately $50M and square footage is 92,000. An energy model was created at the start of the proj- ect to evaluate a variety of HVAC approaches. The mechanical systems include air handlers with energy recovery, packaged rooftop units, a gas-fired condens- ing boiler, and air distributed through a combination of variable-air-volume (VAV) boxes and constant vol- ume systems. M&E Engineers provided mechanical engineering and commissioning services for all sites.
