These foals are born with a diluted coat colour that appears as a dull silver or lavender. They are unable to stand at birth and suffer from severe neurological abnormalities, seizures and blindness.
Diagnosis & prevention is through genetic testing.
There is no treatment and euthanasia is recommended.
Warmblood Fragile Foal Syndrome (WFFS)
Warmblood fragile foal syndrome is an inherited systemic connective tissue disorder also caused by a genetic mutation in a homogygous/recessive gene.
It is seen in Warmblood breeds.
These foals are born with extreme skin , resulting in tearing and ulceration of the skin and mucus membranes, especially over joints and pressure points. The joints of the limbs are lax and hyper extendible. Pain and infection also occur.

There is no treatment and euthanasia is recommended.
