Salisbury elementary pollinator and sensory gardens Students and staff planted gardens mostly from seed with some help from United Way Day of Caring volunteers last June. Over the summer, family volunteers and staff helped to care for plants. Pollinator beds include milkweed, sunflowers, zinnias, bachelor buttons, nasturtiums, cosmos, pansies, and mums. The sensory beds have strawberries, sage, pepper and spearmint, lavender, thyme, dill, basil, and marjoram. Out front, we have more pollinator beds and a patch of three sisters' plants - corn, squash, and beans. These are a delight to return to and the students are eager to help watering. We’ve seen toads, monarchs, hummingbirds and other birds and many bees.

Bessborough - Valorie Hannon's grade 3 class having a Smudging Ceremony with Circle of Care Indigenous Cultural Support Worker Freda Clement. Smudging is a deeply spiritual practice rooted in Indigenous traditions, where we honor the earth and our ancestors. We use sacred herbs like white sage, sweetgrass, and cedar, which we believe carry our prayers and intentions. In a smudging ceremony, we light these herbs and allow the smoke to rise, cleansing ourselves and our spaces of negative energies. As the smoke dances, we offer our thoughts and prayers, inviting positivity and healing into our lives. This practice connects us to the natural world, reminding us of the importance of mindfulness and respect for all living things. Smudging is not just a ritual; it’s a way to create harmony, clarity, and a sense of community, honoring our heritage and the wisdom of those who came before us.

United Way 211 Information Line - As we know life can be difficult for many of our residents at the best of times, but the COVID-19 pandemic has created a new layer of stress and anxiety for everyone. Information is changing rapidly. Demand for critical social services and community programs has increased and in many cases the way these supports are delivered has had to change. That's why the United Way launched the 211 Service in NB: to help every person find the support they need. 211 is free, confidential, and acts as the front door to support, helping people navigate the complex network of government, community and social programs and services quickly to find what they need for their unique situation. When someone contacts 211, they are connected with a real person who will ask questions about their situation and then suggest programs or services that can help. Often, they can be registered on the spot. This eliminates the stress of trying to wade through the changing information we are all processing each day.

Phones are answered 24/7 in 170 languages.

Whether you are looking for Government Resources, Mental Health Resources, Food Access Resources or Financial Relief Resources 211 can help you.
