Bessborough - Valorie Hannon's grade 3 class having a Smudging Ceremony with Circle of Care Indigenous Cultural Support Worker Freda Clement. Smudging is a deeply spiritual practice rooted in Indigenous traditions, where we honor the earth and our ancestors. We use sacred herbs like white sage, sweetgrass, and cedar, which we believe carry our prayers and intentions. In a smudging ceremony, we light these herbs and allow the smoke to rise, cleansing ourselves and our spaces of negative energies. As the smoke dances, we offer our thoughts and prayers, inviting positivity and healing into our lives. This practice connects us to the natural world, reminding us of the importance of mindfulness and respect for all living things. Smudging is not just a ritual; it’s a way to create harmony, clarity, and a sense of community, honoring our heritage and the wisdom of those who came before us.
