Yesterday we held our first Drop Down Day of the year with students having the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities to build relationships, enrich their curriculum, inspire new interests and better prepare them for the next phase in their education. It was wonderful to talk to students

during the day and this morning about all the different activities. I would like to thank all the parents, carers and members of our wider community who contributed to the day by delivering careers’ talks, creative workshops or university lectures to students. We also held a Year 11 Parent Presentation in the evening to complement Michele Miller’s presentation to students and it was wonderful to hear such positive feedback at the end of the evening. Further information about the day will feature in the next edition of the school magazine. It was great to see so many pupils providing or purchasing cakes at the Macmillan Cake Sale last week. The final total made for the charity was a fantastic £994.88. Next week we are holding a non-uniform day to support the work of Show Racism the Red Card. Donations can be made through ParentPay accounts this week - thank you in advance for your support. Thank you to all the families who attended last week’s Year 7 Bingo evening hosted by our wonderful FOW, Friends of Waldegrave. It was a lovely evening and great to see everyone having so much fun and making new friends.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING
As the wintry weather creeps young people may be spending less time socialising in person and more time online. In light of this, and World Mental Health Day on 10th October, it seemed a good time to consider digital wellbeing again. Digital wellbeing is about how the internet and technology can make us feel, including the impact on; our emotions, mental health and wellbeing, as well as our physical health and wellbeing. Technology and the internet should be there to enhance and simplify our lives, however, not all online experiences are positive for young peo- ple. They may be caught up in what ChildNet terms ‘Digital Drama’ or see distressing content. Childnet has some really useful tips for promoting digital wellbeing and conversation starters that parents can use. If you would like to sign up for the Breck Foundation parents online safety workshop mentioned last week, please complete this Google form.

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 13
This week saw the first early entry applications sent off to UCAS. These students are applying to Oxford or Cam- bridge and courses in medicine, dentistry and veterinary science. It has been exciting to see students sending off their strong applications and we look forward to the next stage in the process. A reminder to all students and parents to seek out support with UCAS applications and higher education. We have a dedicated careers advisor that can provide guidance to students should they need it. On Tuesday one of our year 13 students, Lola, was invited to the Worshipful Company of World Traders ‘Master’s at Home’ event at the Caledonia Club in London, where she was presented with the Master’s Scholarship 2024 Award. Lola ran an exceptional charity football tournament last academic year, raising over £4,000, with the funding support of the Master’s Scholarship. The Master of the World Traders spoke admirably of Lola’s work. Lola represented herself and the school exceptionally throughout the evening. Well done Lola!! Year 13 students have taken part in an assembly this week for Black History Month. This year’s theme for Black History Month is “Reclaiming Narratives,” and marks a significant shift towards recognising and correcting the narratives of Black history and culture. We also discussed the focus on American history to the detriment of Black British History in our current affairs tutor session. There is also a display of prominent Black figures from each of the A-Level subject disciplines in the sixth form study base. A reminder to parents that the next round of Year 13 mock exams start on the 18th November. Students should be preparing for these and asking their teachers what content they should be revising. If they are concerned in any way they should speak to a member of staff. Finally, this coming Friday is Wear it Red day when students are invited to wear red clothes in support of the charity Show Racism the Red Card. Donations can be made on Parent Pay, as we can’t take cash from students. Thank you in advance for your support.

A beautiful tale of a fisherman’s extremely challenging journey through the gulf stream, with a burning desire to catch what he has never been able to previously. The emotive effects of isolation and the physical toll chasing your dreams can take become more and more prevalent throughout. Hemingway masterfully combines carefully crafted and peaceful imagery of the sea with immense mental torment, as well as taking readers on a journey regarding the emptiness we may feel once our goals have been achieved, and perhaps don’t bring the fulfilment we dreamt of, we always wish for more. ~ Zara

We are currently recruiting for: - Exam Invigilators to assist with the conduct and supervision of the School’s public examinations. If you are interested in joining our team, please contact Shelli Fong, Exams Officer, for an application form. - A Finance Officer to start in Decembmer. The role will be for 35 hours per week, 42 weeks per year (term time plus 3 weeks). Last week we had a great success in the Year 10/11 Richmond Borough Netball Tournament , coming first by winning all their pool games bar one, making it to the semi-finals where they played St Richard Reynolds. The semi final game ended 8-5 to Waldegrave, meaning they were to play Christs in the final. Waldegrave fought so hard to keep their lead through- out the final, with the game finishing with just 1 goal in it. Waldegrave won 8-7, winning the whole tournament!
On the same day, the Year 10’s also took part in the Year 10 Richmond Borough Netball Tournament. They worked very hard in their pool games , beating Richmond Upon Thames School but unfortunately losing to the other teams. Our Year 9 Netball Team also had a match last week where after being behind for the first three quartes of the game, they valiantly fought back to achieve a draw. We had our first football fixtures of the academic year with our Year 7s and 8s playing away against Turing and Twickenham Schools. They played fantastically, winning both matches by creating changes, while preventing any opportunities for the other teams to score. All our players should be proud of their efforts and teamwork.
