Co-Curricular highlights Michaelmas 2022
If you visit the College during term time you will find a huge variety of co-curricular activities taking place. Here is a selection drawn from the Michaelmas Term of 2022.

Drama and Dance Upper School House Drama: Following the staging of eight extracts of eclectic contemporary writing, Raleigh’s Chimerica scooped the top spot. The Senior Production of Me & My Girl in collaboration with JAGS with a 50-strong company of performers, musicians and crew from Year 11, the Remove and Upper Sixth. The Lower School Matilda company showcased excerpts of their summer production at Open Morning. Music The Senior Percussion Group recorded Dreamtimer by Brian Wilshire in June.
The Lower School ran a foodbank drive with 140kg of items delivered by Year 8 pupils to the Peckham Foodbank, and the Upper School campaign collected a similar quantity of goods for the Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers. A Remove pupil compiled and illustrated Simple Desserts, raising funds for UNICEF and the Mark Evison Foundation CCF, Duke of Edinburgh and Scouts CCF: 88 Year 9 pupils signed up for the CCF, including 33 from JAGS.
Three cadets were given the honour of representing the College and the thousands of air cadets across the country at the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. An Upper Sixth pupil completed his RAF Flying Scholarship and participated in the International Air Cadet Exchange (IACE) to France.
A piano and bass guitar duo performed in the Dulwich Picture Gallery to celebrate the work of the artist, writer, and composer, M.K. Čiurlionis. The Sax Quartet played at the Primary and Preparatory Schools’ Heads’ Dinner. Professor Gordon Fergus-Thompson from the Royal College of Music gave a piano masterclass to four of our pianists and Helen Meyerhoff gave a singing masterclass to nine singers and five accompanists Sport
Two Upper Sixth were awarded Army Officer Sixth Form
scholarships and one Upper Sixth passed the Army Officer Selection Board (AOSB).
Duke of Edinburgh: One Upper Sixth pupil recently completed their Gold Award, 18 Year 11 and Remove pupils have completed their Silver Award and many others engaged in the programme. Scouts: A Year 9 pupil was selected to represent England at the next World Scout Jamboree. Union Societies: 60 societies were in action, including LitSoc with guests from JAGS and Sydenham High, and the relaunched Mahjong Society. Debating: Dulwich Schools’ Debating hosted 100 participants, and three Upper School pupils prepared to trial for the English National Schools’ team. Art Folly comprised the exhibited work of ten visiting artists and the Free Learning workshop responses of Year 10 and Remove pupils. Design & Technology Two Remove pupils were awarded Arkwright Engineering Scholarships, an esteemed engineering award given to students within the United Kingdom and Channel Islands. Outings and Expeditions
Athletics: A Remove pupil was selected for the English Athletics Talented Athlete Programme (2022-2024), and an Upper Sixth pupil took bronze in the high jump at the English Schools’ Finals with a jump of 1.92 metres. Badminton: An Upper Sixth pupil won the men’s singles in the Senior Silver Badminton in Northumberland and third place in the Lithuanian Under-19 Badminton International. Cross-Country: The senior cross-country runners finished second overall at the King’s Trophy and the College cross-country racing team won silver in the Haskell Cup.
Cycling: A Year 10 secured the overall win for the under-16 category in the 2022 Herne Hill Velodrome Track League competition.
Fencing: A Year 11 pupil took silver at the Commonwealth Cadet (U21) Fencing Championships and represented GB in the European Cadet Fencing Championships, finishing 11th out of 295 fencers. Football: A Year 9 pupil was selected for the England U15 National Training Camp, three pupils represented the National ISFA XI at the National Festival, and the College hosted 300 pupils from local primary schools for a football tournament refereed by Upper School pupils.
These have included: Classics Trip to Naples, Physics Trip to CERN, French Trip to Paris, Spanish Trip to Valencia, Water Polo Training Camp in Athens, and a German Exchange, along with each Year 7 Form visiting the Outdoor Centre in Brecon Beacons and 50 day trips. Languages Week The College marked the European Day of Languages with a week of events to celebrate our rich cultural mix and linguistic diversity.
Skiing: The ski racing team won the National Indoor title at Milton Keynes, taking three individual medals. Swimming: A Year 9 pupil was selected for the National Age Group Swimming Development Programme, and the Dulwich College and JAGS joint team were overall winners at a Charterhouse Gala. Service Engagement Our Service Engagement programme , combining Charity and Community Action across the College, had almost 200 pupils from Year 10 to the Upper Sixth volunteering at one of thirteen external placements.
Free Leaning beyond the classroom highlights A-level pupils studying The Tempest viewed some of the College’s collection of Early Modern books, including Thomas More’s Utopia, Agrippa’s La Philosophie Occulte , and the College’s copy of Shakespeare’s First Folio Senior Maths Challenge: Year 11 and Upper School pupils achieved 28 Gold awards, 31 Silver and 23 Bronze awards with the top 19 through to the first round of British Maths Olympiad.
Schools and their pupil committees are supportinga number of charities: Read Easy Southwark; The Uganda School Project; Little Lives; and Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers.
