8.4.3 BE EMPATHETIC • Empathy is the capacity to sense and understand what others may be experiencing in certain situations involving frustration, anger or distress. It reflects one’s ability to connect with others’ sorrow and suffering. An empathic person is not selfish or self-centered; rather, they are concerned about the well-being of others. This feeling makes empathic people feel good. They possess the ability to share their feelings, hopes, aspirations and goals, as well as their sadness with others. • Empathy makes people develop a good relationship with one another, which in turn cre- ates an empathic society.
