EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

• Empathy is an emotional ability with the potential to create strong bonds between individu- als, within societies and across nations. An empathetic individual possesses the cognitive ability to be fully present with others, creating a communicative experience in which the other person feels uniquely seen and deeply acknowledged. 8.4.3.1 EMPATHETIC INDIVIDUALS Characteristics of empathetic individuals: Listen Ask

• Listen actively, attentively and thoughtful- ly to others. • Are present for others. • Ask rather than advise. • Use “we” rather than “I”. • See how valuable the other perspective is.

8.4.4 BE SOCIALLY SKILLED Socially skilled individuals are those who have the ability to build successful social relation- ships with others. Emotionally intelligent individuals possess an empathetic character that allows them to establish strong relationships based on their feelings of empathy. Their empa- thetic nature instills in them the ability to inspire others. 8.5 ACTIVITY
