5.2 LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to: • Define the process of people management. • Describe the three core dimensions of people management. • Highlight the importance of compensation for retaining human resources.

5.3 DIMENSIONS OF PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

1. Managing the Human Resource Environment This dimension concerns a company’s culture, mission and vision. Managing the organizational culture, in a way that it is conducive to enhancing workforce productivity and performance, is the responsibility of HR. 2. Acquisition and Preparation of Human Resources Human resources form the backbone of any organization, making the acquisition of qualified individuals a top priority for senior management. Equally important, skill development of human

resources is a key focus for HR to maximize the potential of employees. 3. Assessment and Development of Human Resources

Talent management and assessment are also the responsibility of HR personnel. Empowering human resources with the required competencies and skills to function successfully in the orga- nization is paramount and a key factor in retention. Developing retention policies and procedures

becomes a necessity in this domain, especially for talented employees. Figure 5.1 summarizes the three dimensions of people management.
