6.4 ACTIVITY

Activity 1

Judgment and decision making in action

Scenario: Abdallah is a manager in a university. His brother Omar works in one of its departments. Omar is always late to work and does not do his job properly. Omar’s manager reports to Abdallah and recommends the termination of Omar’s contract because of tardiness. Abdallah needs to make a decision on whether Omar’s con- tract should be terminated. • Do you think Abdallah should immediately follow the recommendation of Omar’s manager and terminate Omar’s contract? • What actions and considerations should Abdallah take into account? • Should Abdallah consult with anyone? • What dimensions should Abdallah exhibit when making the decision?

Activity 2

In a group of four, participants conduct a research project that addresses community problems. The project should allow participants to demonstrate their acquisition of the knowledge, skills and attitudes of efficient decision makers.

6.5 REFLECTIVE PRACTICe Individually, participants write reflective reports on the extent to which their research project has increased their awareness of how effective decision makers they are. The following ques- tions guide the reflection process:
