Stirling Castle

Splendours of Scotland Our updated itinerary is big on beautiful scenery, with the rugged west coast, central Highlands, Trossachs, Cairngorms and perfect Perthshire all featuring. This ultimate mainland Scottish experience also ticks off some of Scotland’s most popular attractions, including Stirling Castle, Strathspey Steam Railway, Queen’s View and the mystical Loch Ness. PACKAGED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Stirling Castle & Loch Katrine Cruise This morning we make the short journey to the city of Stirling to visit the striking hilltop Stirling Castle in the medieval old town. One of Scotland’s largest castles, we discover its historic and architectural significance, exploring the likes of the Great Hall, Chapel Royal, Castle Exhibition, Regimental Museum, Great Kitchens and Stirling Tapestries. This afternoon we enjoy a relaxing 1 hour cruise on Loch Katrine on the Steamship Sir Walter Scott. Departing from the Trossachs pier, we sit back and admire the beauty of the area, taking in views of the surrounding mountains and stunning Trossachs landmarks such as Ben A’an and Ben Venue. Day 3 Aviemore & Strathspey Steam Railway After breakfast we head to Aviemore with some free time to explore this popular Cairngorms resort, famous for its winter sports and hill-walking. From here, we embark on a return journey on the Strathspey Steam Railway to Broomhill, taking in glorious views of heather-clad moors, Caledonian forest and the Spey River. Once back in Aviemore, we continue our travels to Ullapool. Day 4 Ullapool Driver’s Day Off We enjoy a day at leisure in the picturesque fishing town of Ullapool, gateway to the Northern Highlands, nestled on the shores of Loch Broom. The natural beauty of this area has to be seen to be believed and the attractions in this quaint village include the Ullapool Museum or one of the many boat trips offering tours around the surrounding waters (individual bookings in advance advised). Day 5 West Highlands & Inverewe Gardens This morning we set off for a scenic tour of the west coast. Heading east to Garve first, we then loop via Loch Maree to Gairloch for a comfort stop at the harbour of this little fishing village, continuing north to the award-winning botanical Inverewe Gardens full of amazing flora not normally seen in the UK. Finally, we follow the route of the famous North Coast Route along the coast back to Ullapool, marvelling at the rugged landscape which changes dramatically from turn to turn. Day 6 Inverness & Loch Ness Cruise This morning we travel south to the popular destination of Inverness, where we spend some time at leisure exploring before continuing our journey to Fort Augustus to embark on

a 50 minute cruise of Loch Ness , brimming with history and monster tales. Departing from Fort Augustus on the southern shores, we attempt to track down the world’s shyest monster whilst admiring the loch’s beautiful castles, monuments and scenery. Sit back and relax as we take in Cherry Island, the loch’s only island, and the striking Fort Augustus Abbey. Back on dry land we re-board our coach and head to Pitlochry. Day 7 Blair Athol Distillery & Queen’s View This morning we enjoy a guided tour of the Blair Athol Distillery , where we get to learn all about life in a working distillery and despite the time, perhaps try a nip or two! Then we head to the Queen’s View Visitor Centre in the heart of Highland Perthshire. Perhaps named after its links with Queen Isabella of Scotland, the first wife of Robert the Bruce, or Queen Victoria, who visited in 1866, the view from here is regarded as Highland Perthshire’s most iconic and in one of the most photographed areas of Scotland. We return to Pitlochry and spend the rest of our day at leisure exploring this picture-postcard town. Day 8 Departure After breakfast, we make our way home.
