Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway
A Journey through Grand Cumbria Our exciting packaged tour is based at the Cumbria Grand Hotel, which is set in a fabulous location on the southern border of the Lake District. We enjoy nostalgic journeys through spectacular scenery on lovingly restored and maintained heritage railways, cruises on Lake Windermere and afternoon tea at a very welcoming stately home. PACKAGED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Carnforth Station Heritage Centre, Morecambe & Leighton Hall This morning we travel to Morecambe with a stop en route at the famous Carnforth Station Heritage Centre and Refreshment Room . Fully restored to its 1940’s glory when the Refreshment Room was used as the setting for David Lean’s film “Brief Encounter”, we enjoy the nostalgia of the station before we travel to Morecambe, where we have some free time to stretch our legs on the famous Lancashire coast. Our final stop for today is historic Leighton Hall , where we enjoy a guided tour and afternoon tea. Day 3 Ravenglass & Eskdale Steam Railway This morning, we start with a return steam train journey on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Steam Railway from the coastal village of Ravenglass to the very heart of the Lake District, Dalegarth, where we will disembark for a short break before our 40 minute return journey. On arrival at Ravenglass station we will enjoy a museum tour. Please note, the roads in Eskdale are narrow and coaches can only turn around in one place. Day 4 Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway & Windermere Cruises We spend today in the Lake District. First, we make our way to Haverthwaite Station from where we enjoy a nostalgic steam train journey on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway to the south of Lake Windermere and Lakeside pier. At Lakeside, we board our boat to enjoy a 40 minute cruise around the south of Lake Windermere. Arriving at Bowness, we spend a couple of hours here exploring over lunchtime before catching our last cruise north to Ambleside . On arrival we meet our coach and return to our hotel. Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we make our way home.
