All aboard for our new tour as we steam through tremendous landscapes that have been the inspiration for writers, artists and filmmakers over the years. We chuff through dramatic Yorkshire scenery on both the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway and Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, and enjoy a relaxing cruise along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. We also have a day at leisure in the equally appealing Harrogate or York – both have so much to offer so you can’t go wrong! PACKAGED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway & Skipton Canal Cruise This morning begins with a 30 minute journey through the scenic Yorkshire Dales on the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway before enjoying free time for lunch in the charming market town of Skipton. In the afternoon we watch the world drift by on a relaxing 1 hour narrow boat cruise along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal through the picturesque Pennine countryside with tea and coffee served on board. Please note: trains subject to 2024 timetable which operate on certain days . Day 3 Harrogate or York We spend today at leisure in either Harrogate or York – the choice is yours! The lovely Victorian spa town of Harrogate offers the grade II listed Royal Pump Room Museum, various independent and well-known shops, the famous Bettys Café Tea Rooms, the luxurious Turkish Baths and several pretty gardens, including Valley Gardens, RHS Garden Harlow Carr and Stray Park. The timbered city of York is an ancient and compact walled city with highlights including ‘The Shambles’, one of the best-preserved medieval streets in the world, the National Railway Museum, the JORVIK Viking Centre, the magnificent Minster and the state- of-the-art Undercroft Museum located in chambers underneath the cathedral. Why not also include a fantastic York City Cruise in keeping with the theme of this holiday! Day 4 Keighley & Worth Valley Railway & Harewood House This morning we embark on a journey through Bronte country on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway from Howarth to Keighley – look out for the station which boasted a starring role in the film The Railway Children. After, we make our way to imposing Harewood House with its stunning interiors, beautiful gardens and remarkable views. One of the Treasure Houses of England, we enjoy a soup and sandwich lunch before we’re free to explore. With rolling landscapes, an impressive art collection, renaissance masterpieces, exquisite Thomas Chippendale furniture, 100 acres of award-winning gardens and a renowned lakeside Bird Garden, Harewood offers plenty to see. Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we make our way home.
