A Yorkshire Treat for the Senses Our tour is based in the stunning Yorkshire Dales, a landscape full of contrast with rolling hills and rugged peaks through to lush dales and heather covered moors. Our excursions offer a veritable treat for the senses as we feast our eyes on spectacular scenery at Castle Howard and from the train on Wensleydale Railway, tantalise our taste buds at Blacksheep Brewery, soak up sweet scents at Yorkshire Lavender and get a real taste of life in the Second World War at Eden Camp. PACKAGED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Castle Howard & York In the morning we visit the magnificent Castle Howard , situated within idyllic sweeping parkland dotted with statues, temples, lakes and formal gardens. More like a palace, this opulent country house has been the setting for many cinematic productions including the TV adaptation of Brideshead Revisited. In the afternoon we spend time at leisure exploring the compact ancient walled city of York. Wander along ‘The Shambles’, one of the most preserved medieval streets in the world and visit the breathtaking York Minster, the ground breaking Jorvik Viking Centre and the thrilling York Dungeon. Day 3 Wensleydale Railway & Blacksheep Brewery We begin this morning with a trip on the heritage Wensleydale Railway from Leeming Bar in the Vale of Mowbray, through stunning Herriot and Turner country, to Redmire in the Dales. We follow this with a 1 hour ‘shepherded’ tour at the Blacksheep Brewery , ending with the chance to relish a glass of their award-winning ale. Day 4 Eden Camp & Yorkshire Lavender This morning we visit Eden Camp where we experience the sights, sounds and even the smells of life in WWII. Set in an original Prisoner of War Camp, this atmospheric museum recounts the social and military history of the war in expertly recreated scenes from the great battles, to rationing, the Blitz and working in the factories and mines. In the afternoon we breathe in delightful heady scents at Yorkshire Lavender as we wander round the gardens admiring the vibrant array of colours from white to a range of blues, rich lilacs and deep purples. Why not add a tasty Yorkshire treat on the Wensleydale Railway with one of their group refreshment options? Please contact us for details. If you do like to be beside the seaside, consider changing Day 4 to include some of Yorkshire’s smashing seaside resorts, such as charming Whitby and popular Scarborough.
