Lashings of Fun in the Devon Sun Based in Tiverton, this grand Devon tour features the spectacular gardens of Hestercombe, traditional Sheppy’s Cider, the West Somerset Railway and the mane attraction – a relaxing horse-drawn canal cruise along the beautiful Grand Western canal. PACKAGED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Hestercombe Gardens & Sheppy’s House of Cider This morning, we head for the beautiful world of Hestercombe Gardens , where we enjoy a 60 minute guided tour with a knowledgeable guide . Tours with the Head Gardener may be available – please ask at time of booking. Designed over three centuries, the 50 acres of stunning gardens feature lakes, temples, cascades, formal terraces, vivid colours and magnificent views. We enjoy free time for lunch here before we make our way to Sheppy’s House of Cider , home of one of the oldest premium craft making cider families in the world. We enjoy a 30 minute tutored tasting of some of the award-winning ciders followed by a traditional cream tea . Day 3 West Somerset Railway & Lynton & Lynmouth This morning, we travel to Bishops Lydeard for a journey on the UK’s longest heritage railway, the West Somerset Railway . After a visit to the Gauge Museum on Platform 1, we embark on a relaxing one way journey through stunning countryside to Minehead (please note, steam haulage is not guaranteed and is dependent on departure times). We have free time to enjoy lunch in Minehead before we head to the picturesque town of Lynton where we take the Victorian water powered funicular cliff lift to the twin town of Lynmouth 500ft below! (Ticket price not included, payable locally). Day 4 Tiverton Canal Cruise We enjoy a peaceful 90 minute horse-drawn barge cruise this morning along the scenic Grand Western Canal. As we cruise serenely along the water in our fully equipped, traditionally painted barge, we learn about the barge, the beautiful heavy horses and the riverside wildlife. In the afternoon, we spend free time in Tiverton. Set on the banks of the Grand Western Canal, the town is full of history and heritage. Alternatively, we have the option of visiting the Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life. Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we make our way home.
