This fantastic tour features former Tudor powerhouse The Vyne and Jane Austen’s House Museum. We also enjoy a journey on a vintage railway, a delicious gin tasting and free time in the city of Salisbury. PACKAGED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 The Vyne & Bombay Sapphire Distillery We spend this morning at The Vyne , a one time gem in the Tudor crown turned 17th century family home, now part of the National Trust. We enjoy a guided tour of its stunning interiors before we have free time to explore the beautiful grounds and perhaps have lunch. In the afternoon, we head to rural Hampshire for a guided tour of the Bombay Sapphire Gin Distillery , where we discover the Glasshouses, the Botanical Dry Room and the Dakin Still House before enjoying a tailor made drink. Day 3 Mid Hants Railway & Jane Austen’s House Museum Today we visit the Georgian market town of Alresford to board a Mid Hants Railway vintage train for a one way journey on the Watercress Line to Alton. From here we make the short journey to Jane Austen’s House Museum . We get a sense for how she lived and see personal items, from books & letters to pieces of furniture, clothing & paintings. Day 4 Salisbury Today, we travel to Salisbury for a day at leisure. An absolute must is the cathedral with its ornate 13th century spire and, most impressively, an original copy of Magna Carta. Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we make our way home.
Our super tour makes the most of Hampshire’s long maritime history, with a visit to the fantastic Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and nostalgic hovercraft journey to the Isle of Wight. We also enjoy breathtaking and far-reaching views from the Spinnaker Tower observation deck and a guided tour of the iconic Bombay Sapphire Distillery. PACKAGED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Portsmouth Historic Dockyard & Spinnaker Tower Today, we visit Portsmouth Historic Dockyard , to enjoy the many superb attractions. Highlights include HMS Victory, Nelson’s famous flagship from the Battle of Trafalgar; the Mary Rose Museum, which displays the remains and recovered objects of the flagship of Henry VIII; and HMS Warrior 1860. This afternoon, we visit Spinnaker Tower , which stands at 170 metres tall. We enjoy the breathtaking views over Portsmouth Harbour, the city, the Solent, the South Downs and the Isle of Wight from three viewing decks. Day 3 Winchester & Bombay Sapphire Distillery This morning, we visit the historic city of Winchester. Here we can explore the medieval cathedral with its fascinating 17th century Morley Library, the Norman crypt and the Winchester Bible dating back to the 12th century. In the afternoon, we head to rural Hampshire to enjoy a guided tour of the Bombay Sapphire Gin Distillery , where we discover the Glasshouses, the Botanical Dry Room and the Dakin Still House before enjoying a drink suited to our personal taste profile in the Mill Bar. Day 4 Isle of Wight Today we take the Hovercraft to the Isle of Wight, not just for the crossing but for a Hovertravel Experience , during which the hovercraft capabilities are demonstrated. On arrival in Ryde we meet the pilot for a tour and inside look at the hovercraft. We have free time in Ryde for lunch before returning to the mainland via hovercraft once more. Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we make our way home.
