Make Tracks for the Garden of England In recognition of Kent’s reputation as the Garden of England, our tour includes visits to the impressive Walmer Castle, Great Dixter House and their stunning grounds and gardens. We also take in the views at the scenic Samphire Hoe nature reserve, tuck into lunch on the Kent & East Sussex Railway and spend some time in historic Canterbury. PACKAGED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Canterbury Today we head to Canterbury with free time to explore the historic city, famed for its medieval buildings, quaint tea shops and magnificent cathedral. Having been a place of worship for more than 1,400 years, the cathedral is one of the oldest and most famous Christian structures in England and forms part of a World Heritage Site. In between our explores, we can enjoy a leisurely lunch in one of the many great eateries here. Day 3 Walmer Castle and Gardens & Samphire Hoe We start our day at the grand Walmer Castle and Gardens , near Deal, learning more about the fascinating history of the castle and its former famous residents, including the Duke of Wellington in his role as Lord Warden. We also enjoy a guided tour of the magnificent eight-acre gardens, featuring herbaceous borders, pretty blooms and mature trees. This afternoon we travel along the coast road down to the beautiful Samphire Hoe nature reserve. Home to some of the best views in Kent, we enjoy a welcome talk and set off on a guided walk , keeping our eyes peeled for wildlife, rare plants, stunning landscapes of the White Cliffs and spectacular English Channel views. Day 4 Kent & East Sussex Railway & Great Dixter House & Gardens This morning we make tracks for the Kent & East Sussex Railway to embark on a one-way steam train journey from Tenterden to Bodiam. We tuck into a ploughman’s lunch on board as we admire our scenic surrounds. This afternoon is spent at Great Dixter House & Gardens . Having been the family home of gardener and gardening writer, Christopher Lloyd, the arts and crafts style gardens are particularly impressive here. Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we make our way home.
