This delightful tour showcases some of the best in rural and industrial England. For the rural we include visits to RHS Garden Wisley and Savill Garden while for the industrial we explore the open-air Rural Living Museum and fascinating Whitchurch Silk Mill. Add a Thames cream tea cruise and time in Winchester and we truly have created a gem of a tour. PACKAGED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 RHS Garden Wisley, Farnham & Rural Living Museum After breakfast we head straight out for a real showstopper, RHS Garden Wisley , one of the world’s great gardens and home of the RHS. During our visit we can delight at one of the world’s largest plant collections as we browse the various themed areas, such as the Wellbeing Garden, the Wildlife Garden, the Exotic Garden, Seven Acres, Heron’s Bonsai Walk and of course the Glasshouse. There is so much to see we are truly spoilt for choice. We have free time for lunch in the historic town of Farnham, before our afternoon visit to the nearby Rural Living Museum . In this open-air museum, set in over 10 acres, we can find out all about the story of the countryside through its unique collection of historic buildings, cleverly re-located to allow public access. Volunteers get fully involved demonstrating skills and working machinery at various times during the day. Day 3 Savill Garden & Windsor River Cruise This morning we enjoy a visit to Savill Garden . Created in the 1930’s, today it is a natural haven with beautifully designed gardens and woodland and with 35 acres of interconnected gardens to explore including seasonal areas of flower, plants and trees, it makes for a stunning trip throughout the year. Our next stop is in Windsor where we board our boat for a 2 hour circular river cruise . We sit back and relax with our cream tea as we take in the scenery from the Thames viewpoint, including a picture-perfect view of Windsor castle, famous Eton College, Windsor racecourse as well as passing through Boveney Lock as we head upstream, before returning to Windsor Promenade. Day 4 Whitchurch Silk Mill & Winchester Today we head into rural Hampshire for a morning visit to Whitchurch Silk Mill , the working oldest silk mill still in its original building. A true gem of industrial heritage, our 1 hour guided tour will open our eyes to the ancient art of weaving and how it has changed over the years. We also see the original mill wheel and have time after our tour to stroll around the gardens before enjoying a sandwich lunch with cake . After a stop in the shop to browse for gifts, we head to Winchester, England’s ancient capital for the afternoon. Here we have choices to keep us occupied. For historians we have the famous medieval cathedral with its 17th century Morley Library, Winchester Bible and Norman crypt, the Great Hall, the final remains of Winchester Castle or the impressive City Mill. There are also gardens and parks and of course shops, cafés and restaurants aplenty. Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we make our way home.
