victory without peace. Winning the war is conceived to be a lesser task than “winning the peace.” There is fear of victory without peace. Victory alone will not bring peace. It will be victory without peace if it is victory without God, or if the effort is made, as- in past times, to achieve peace without God. / Beyond ‘ victory there must be a higher goal for America apd Ameri cans and their allies. We must do more than win; we must accept the authority and leadership nf God in our hearts and lives. We must do mòre than win over our enemies; we must let God win and reign over us. To attain peace; we must look be yond victory—we must look to God. To have peace, wé must have more than victory—we must have Christ. Be yond Viètory, we must see,and find and know the cross of Calvary. Be yond victory is Christ who, to all men and all nations who love and honor Him, will give His peace.

the very heart of the camp of the enemy. • We are to “occupy” until Christ-comes. That does not mean, that we are merely to “hold our own,” to maintain the ground already 'gained for The cause of Christ. It means, rather, that we are. to “occupy”.for Christ the hearts and lives of tnose now in the ranks of His enemies. We are to occupy~alien hearts and alien lands in the name of Christ. BEYOND VICTORY: • The United Nations are being swept by the “V for Victory” sloganeering campaign. We want victory. We pray for'victory. But one sometimes won ders whether victory is enough. Should we not be looking beyond victory to an even higher and loftier goal? We are f i g h t i n g to keep our churches . from being destroyed by , anti-God dictators. But is the battle really Won if our churches.. remain half empty on the Lord’s Day? To defeat the alien enemy of the church is only half the. battle. The other half is. to fill out churches again with, the faithful. We are fighting to keep Hitler from burning our Ribles. But it Will be a- hollow victory if we merely save our Bibles from being burned-r-and' yet keep them gathering dust in the attics of three-quarters of the homes of the nation. It will be an empty achiever ment to keep the Nazis from trampling the Bible in the dust, if we continue to permit the Scriptures to be scorned and’ discredited in our own schools and colleges. We are fighting to keep the totali- . tarians from enslaving us. But it will be an insignificant accomplishment to ward off Nazi slavery, if we permit alcoholic bondage to be forced upon multitudes of our youth, Victory alone can hardly signify all that we ought to be fighting for. After all, even the Nazis and Japanese want victory. They want to win/ Perhaps we should have a slogan which would signify the difference between our goal and their goal, if our objective is to be truly different from theirs, it must go beyond mere victory. , Possibly a better slogan for us would be “R for Righteousness.” The totali- tarlahs would never seek to steal that slogan, for they do’not want righteous ness, Or, best of all, oiir slogan' might be “C for Christ and His Rule Among Men.” No dictator would ever borrow» that slogan! s - VICTORY WITHOUT PEACE? • During the first Wcyld War, Presi dent Wilson c h a r i t a b 1y spoke of “peace without victory.” We n£w seem to be in sight of the possibility of
