Member Highlight Meet Arlow T.
In 2014, six-year-old Arlow walked through the Club doors for the first time, and like many children trying something new, she began to cry. More than a decade later, that little kid is now a senior in high school who still remembers her first day.
Today, after 10 years at the Boys & Girls Clubs, Arlow has grown through seasons both joyful and difficult. She has transformed into a strong, dynamic young person whose journey has shaped her into a compassionate leader. Throughout her time with the Club, she embraced opportunities to lead. From serving as Keystone Club Vice President and Girls’ Health in Girls’ Hands Leadership member, to mentoring younger Club members as a summer intern, Arlow has used her experiences to uplift others and make a meaningful impact. As she approaches high school graduation, Arlow’s future is bright. She has been accepted into many colleges, including her top choice, Northwestern University. Arlow plans on pursuing a degree in journalism.
“I was the quiet kid who sat in the corner,” she recalls. “Making friends was rough.”
By January 2021, shortly before her 13th birthday, Arlow’s father unexpectedly passed away. She entered her teen years navigating that grief during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Club remained a constant – it was a place of belonging with trusted mentors and peers, who stood beside her.
“Words matter to me,” she says. I want to use my voice to inspire change.”
Arlow T. accepts leadership award from Clubhouse Director, Isaiah Nickerson.
