How Insurance Surprises Can Spoil More Than Just April Fools NO LAUGHING MATTER

April Fools' Day brings its share of laughs with harmless pranks and office antics. However, some surprises are far from funny, especially when they involve your insurance company. Imagine finding out that your Personal Injury Protection (PIP) benefits are exhausted on hospital bills when you've got solid health insurance and still need to cover lost wages. Or discovering that your uninsured motorist coverage doesn't apply to a hit-and-run because you can't prove the other car was uninsured. Now, those are the kinds of surprises nobody wants.

We can help navigate the complexities of insurance policies, ensuring you're adequately protected against life's less pleasant surprises.

For example, although PIP can cover the first $10,000 of lost wages and/or medical expenses, without instruction, insurance companies might direct all funds toward medical bills, even when you have health insurance that could cover those costs should your bills exceed the $10,000 of PIP. Similarly, the nuances of using uninsured motorist coverage in hit-and-run scenarios can leave victims without the support they thought they had. That's why it's crucial to consult with an attorney early on. We dive deep into policy details and offer insights that can prevent unexpected shocks down the road. Consulting with a legal professional isn't just about pursuing a claim; it's about empowering yourself with knowledge to make informed decisions about your coverage. At our firm, we're not just about legal battles; we're about fostering an environment of trust and support, both for our team and our clients. Whether we're celebrating a birthday or untangling the complexities of insurance policies, our goal is to ensure that everyone feels valued and protected. You can scan our QR code above to learn more about how we can help you before disaster strikes! Remember, it's the surprises you don't see coming that you need to prepare for the most. And in those instances, having someone in your corner can make all the difference. If you're navigating the tricky waters of insurance coverage or just want to ensure you're prepared for life's unexpected turns, reach out. We're here to help, no pranks attached .

In our office, we embrace the fun side of April Fools' and other celebrations with a spirit lifted straight from "The Office" TV show. On one memorable birthday, we embraced our inner Jim Halpert and Dwight Schrute by encasing a stapler in Jell-O and

Saran-wrapping an office desk. Yes, it took a bit of time to set up and clean up, but the laughter and the boost in team morale were absolutely worth it.

Celebrating milestones, like Andrea's 60th birthday with a surprise party that even her sister flew in for, underscores the importance of community and connection at our workplace. I’ll never forget the look on her face when we went to a different floor for our supposed “one-on-one” meeting just for her to see her family! As a personal injury attorney, I've encountered numerous clients blindsided by their insurance policies' fine print. Situations where comprehensive coverage isn't so comprehensive after all, or where hit-and-run victims are left unsupported due to technicalities, are all too common. These are the moments when the value of having an experienced attorney from the start becomes clear.

In the Middle Ages, most people didn’t sleep for eight uninterrupted hours like we do today. Instead, they had a “biphasic” sleep schedule, which means they had two sleep phases, one in the evening with a brief period of activity in the middle. For first sleep, the household typically slept from 9–11 p.m. They slept on one single straw mattress. Everyone — including children, parents, and visitors — huddled on one bed. Despite the lack of space, they tried to make it as comfortable as possible with complex sleeping arrangements. Touching, kicking, or any other restless activity was considered rude. Meanwhile, girls slept closest to the wall, followed by boys, guests, and parents. While they didn’t have alarm clocks back then, they had an internal clock that woke them up around midnight. Once they woke, they had plenty to do. They refueled the fire, did farmwork, and prayed. Often, people socialized with each other, but the busy schedules of farming families cut down on chatting time. After they went to bed for a second sleep, they’d wake up at dawn. Not everyone kept to the schedule. Young children slept all night unless they woke up to the commotion. Benedictine monks dozed at 7 p.m. and woke at 2 a.m. for prayer, staying awake until an afternoon nap. Still, most people followed the two- part sleep schedule, and medieval medicine even discussed how to do it properly. For example, medical texts recommended that they lie on their right side during the first sleep and switch to the left on the second sleep. It’s really not that weird — research suggests that biphasic sleep is quite natural and influenced more by lifestyle compatibility, which means the eight-hour schedule likely evolved as cultures industrialized. Our emphasis on uninterrupted slumber also coalesces with our invention of modern mattresses, and this may not be a coincidence. Sleeping is much more enjoyable if you lie down on a soft mattress than a bed of prickly straw.

FROM SPAGHETTI TREES TO FLYING PENGUINS THE LEGENDARY PRANKS OF APRIL 1ST

April Fools' Day is a time when pranksters come alive, unleashing their most creative — and sometimes bewildering — pranks on unsuspecting victims. While the origins of the holiday remain relatively unknown, April Fools’ Day has been embraced worldwide, leading to some truly unforgettable moments throughout history. BBC’s Swiss Spaghetti Harvest One classic prank that remains a real kicker is the 1957 BBC report on Swiss farmers enjoying a particularly bountiful spaghetti harvest. The serious tone of the April 1 broadcast, complete with footage of people plucking spaghetti from trees, somehow convinced many viewers of this culinary phenomenon. The reality of spaghetti growing on trees, of course, was as fictional then as it is now, but the prank went down in history for its originality and the number of people it fooled. Taco Liberty Bell? Fast forward to April 1, 1996, when Taco Bell pulled a fast one on the American public by announcing that they had purchased the Liberty Bell. In their full-page ads in prominent newspapers, they claimed the iconic symbol of American independence would henceforth

be known as the "Taco Liberty Bell." The public's outrage quickly

turned to laughter when the fast-food chain revealed it was just an April Fools' joke!

Remarkable Flying Penguins

More recently, in 2008, the BBC struck again with a video report featuring flying penguins presented by ex-Monty Python star Terry Jones. The documentary-style footage showed these Antarctic birds taking to the skies in a majestic migration to the rainforests of South America. This whimsical wonder was, unsurprisingly, a digital trick, but it captured the imagination of viewers worldwide. These pranks share a common thread: They play on our willingness to believe the unbelievable, if only for a moment. April Fools' Day reminds us not to take life too seriously and that a little bit of silliness can be a delightful break from the norm!

HAVE A LAUGH!

DON’T LET RAIN DAMPEN YOUR DRIVE

HOW TO STAY SAFE ON WET ROADS THIS SPRING As the rain begins to pour this April, driving safely should be at the forefront of everyone's mind. Sure, we adjust our driving habits for snow and ice, but it's just as crucial to adapt to April showers, too. Let's dive into some essential driving tips that can make all the difference when navigating wet roads. First and foremost, your windshield wipers need to be in top-notch condition. It's a simple check that many overlook until it's too late. If your wipers aren't effectively clearing the water off your windshield, your visibility is compromised, and so is your safety. Before the storm hits, ensure your wipers are working well and your wiper fluid is topped off. Remember, the grime from the road doesn't take a break during the rain; if anything, it becomes more of an issue. Visibility can plummet rapidly during a rainstorm, sometimes to the point where the road ahead is barely visible. While it might seem intuitive to switch on your flashers and pull to the side, this actually increases your risk of a side collision. Instead, find a safe exit and park in a well-lit parking lot until the worst passes. The speed limit? It's for ideal conditions. When it's pouring, driving at the speed limit can be dangerous. If the speed limit is 70 mph, consider reducing your speed to 50 mph or lower depending on the intensity of the rain. It's not about how fast you can go. It's about how safely you can arrive at your destination. Additionally, consider the condition of your vehicle, especially your tires. Not every car is equipped with tires that handle wet roads well. Understand the capabilities of your vehicle and adjust your speed accordingly. When in doubt, slow down. The goal is to grip the road, not to test your car's limits. We'd rather you stay safe than become a client due to a rain-related accident. From an employer's perspective, I always emphasize to my team that it's better to arrive late and safe than not arrive at all. Anticipate delays and give yourself plenty of time to reach your destination. April's showers might bring May flowers, but they also bring slippery roads and reduced visibility. Let's prioritize safety and adapt our driving to match the conditions.

In a heartwarming tale of courage and resilience, a pit bull named Kilo defied the odds after being shot in the head while bravely protecting his owner. The incident unfolded when an intruder invaded Kilo’s home. In a shocking turn of events, Kilo’s instinct to shield his owner led to a life-threatening injury, but “Super Pitty” survived, capturing many hearts, too. One Saturday evening 12 years ago on Staten Island, a gunman posing as a FedEx deliveryman rang the doorbell of Kilo’s home. He didn’t wait long before he pushed his way into the apartment. Kilo’s human, Justin Becker, told CBS, “He barged in. My first reaction after seeing the gun was to push him out, so I pushed him to the door.” Becker’s girlfriend, Nicole Percoco, had been holding Kilo during this encounter and let him go. Kilo jumped into action, fighting back against the invader, unfortunately getting shot in the fight. Luckily, the bullet just missed Kilo's skull, entering and exiting right under his ears, said Dr. Gregory L. Panarello, the medical director of South Shore Animal Hospital. After a 40-minute surgery to remove bullet fragments, he was patched up and even given a superhero insignia on his bandage. Three days later, Kilo was up and going on every dog’s favorite pastime: walkies. Kilo’s story is a powerful reminder of the indomitable spirit of canine companions and the strength of their love for us. Even 12 years later, Super Pitty Kilo’s story still spreads love and happiness. Give your pet an extra cuddle tonight so they know just how much you love them!
