CARGO Turkish Airlines aims to boost cargo carried to over 3.9 million tons by 2033.

Turkish Airlines has become Türkiye’s wings in the air cargo market. The Incorporation contributes to the trade of developing and growing Türkiye and serves as the gateway of exporters to the world. With its wide flight network of 104 destinations flown by freighter, enhanced cargo services are provided across the globe, connecting various regions from Asia to the Americas. The Incorporation plans to expand its flight network to 150 destinations by 2033 and further strengthen Türkiye’s position as the world’s trade bridge. Turkish Airlines aims to boost its cargo carried from an expected 1.6+ million tons in 2023 to over 3.9 million tons in 2033 with new generation aircraft to be added to the fleet and passenger-to- cargo converted aircraft. While expanding the fleet, Turkish Airlines plans further investments in the infrastructure of the SmartIST cargo hub at Istanbul Airport, which is equipped with state-of- the-art facilities that exceed world standards. The facility’s annual cargo handling capacity of 2.2 million tons is planned to double in the coming years.

Given the developing market conditions and sector growth, Turkish Airlines plans to expand and diversify its business volume in existing and different markets. Turkish Airlines aims to grow efficiently with its point-to-point transportation and B2B business model. High value-added special cargo is targeted to rise from 36% of total cargo revenue in 2022, to 55% in 2033, making a positive contribution to unit revenues. Turkish Airlines is aware that to take the brand to the next level and create more value for Türkiye, it needs to focus on high value- added and innovative initiatives. Therefore, while growing in its current business model, Turkish Airlines plans to go beyond its national borders and implement a logistics ecosystem consisting of partnerships, e-commerce, and technology investments. In this way, the Incorporation’s business volume will expand in distant markets via partnerships and agreements, touch the lives of end users with door-to-door transportation, boost operational efficiency, and become a partner in the e-commerce pie, which is expected to reach a volume of trillions of US dollars.
