SUSTAINABILITY Turkish Airlines aims to become a carbon-neutral airline by 2050.

Climate change is a pressing global issue that is also a crucial item on the aviation industry’s agenda. The industry is taking proactive measures and establishing ambitious targets to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA), key international bodies in civil aviation, have formulated these targets and corresponding requirements to address the environmental impacts associated with air transportation.

IATA and ICAO have set a collective objective for the industry to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, aligning with the 1.5ºC target outlined in the Paris Agreement. This commitment emphasizes the adoption of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), advancements in aircraft technologies, utilization of electricity and hydrogen energy, operational efficiency, carbon offsetting, and carbon capture methods. Turkish Airlines recognizes the importance of the environment and communities, prioritizing these priceless assets above profits. The company collaborates with numerous national and international organizations to carry out sustainability initiatives, aligning its efforts with global objectives.
