DERG WATER TREATMENT WORKS
CONCRETE PACKAGE
NEC PROJECT MANAGER
Raptic was awarded a £375,000 concrete package for the Derg Water Treatment Works upgrade by main contractor Lowry Construction Ltd. Improving the water quality within the Derg network and providing additional security of water supply to the Castlederg, Strabane and Omagh supply area, the £12m upgrade involved 1700m3 of concrete in total supplied by specialist sub- contractors including Raptic. Established in 1991, the Dungannon-based firm has grown into one of the most successful reinforced concrete frame contractors in the UK and Ireland. With the largest stock of formwork in the country, the firm has the reach, resources and capabilities to undertake projects spanning £100,000 to £100m. Raptic’s team brings a wealth of experience dating back to the early 1970s, with the skills to provide innovative solutions for complex concrete structures and projects. Health and safety is a priority, with a high emphasis placed on training, testing and inspections of its staff and equipment.
Northern Ireland Water’s receptivity to innovative, new technologies and products made Derg Water Treatment Works an exciting project to be involved in for NEC project manager RPS, while a one-team ethos ensured its successful delivery. Donnla Fisher, Associate - Water Infrastructure at RPS, said, “Our primary objective was to ensure that the deadline for beneficial use by the end of March 2023 was met, and to manage the scope changes and associated costs due to using a new, innovative chemical product. “The collaborative approach to optioneering from all parties within the design team and with NI Water was established during the ECI stage of the project, and those good relationships maintained throughout development and construction of the final solution. “The regular and transparent communications with the contractor, Lowry’s, established the trust that allowed any changes in scope to be discussed, solutions agreed upon and costs submitted and reviewed without extended periods of negotiation or delay to the beneficial use date.”
