Standards (Park Classifications) In order to provide the parks, recreation, and open space facilities needed by the City’s residents, a set of standards and criteria should be followed. For the purpose of this planning effort, the parks in DeSoto were categorized and classified based on park design concepts and standards identified by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA): • Neighborhood Parks • Community Parks • Regional Parks • Natural Areas and/or Open Space • Special Use/Linear Parks • Undeveloped Parks
