first thought We open this envelope and find a Roman numeral I, sug gesting one God. When I unfold it, I find that it is a Roman numeral III, reminding us of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We will cut these apart, showing how the Son came down to earth. We will place the two remaining pieces of paper back in the envelope and seal it. Let us now put t h i s remaining Roman numeral I on the cross. Jesus received five wounds, so we will mark this piece of paper in five places with red crayon. The body of Christ was taken down from the cross and placed in the grave. We will place this piece of paper in the e n v e l o p e marked “GRAVE,” and seal it. On the third day, when the followers of Christ came to the tomb, they found that it was already opened, and that Christ had been raised from the dead. We will cut off the end of the envelope and look into it. *On that first Easter, the followers of Christ were greeted with the words, “He is not here, but is risen” (Luke 24:6). (Open the envelope and show the back compartment which will be empty.) •After forty days, Christ went back to Heaven. We will now open the envelope marked “HEAVEN.” Here we find a Roman numeral III, with the center upright having the five marks of the cross. When we think of the Trinity and Heaven, let us remember that the Son of God, the rejected Redeemer, is risen and alive forevermore. Objects: Two white paper hearts, two black paper hearts, a red cloth, a compass and a cardboard tube, such as is used for mailing certificates. (Make the black hearts by using two thicknesses of paper for each. Before pasting them together place several safety razor blades between them, which will cause the compass needle to deflect when It comes near them. April 13, 1947 H eart T rouble

Lesson: I brought four hearts with me this morning. Two of them are white and two are black. The white ones are wrapped in this red cloth, representing the blood of Christ which cleanses from all sin. I want four boys to come to the platform. We will think about the matter of God’s knowing what kind of heart a person has. “Man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart” (1 Sam. 16:7). You boys turn your backs to the audience and to me, and each take up one of the hearts from the table and place it under your coat over your own heart No one but you four knows who has the white or black hearts. From the “outward appear ance” no one can tell what the colors are. As you stand in a row, I will look in this tube and will be able to tell what color each has. (Place over the region of the boy’s heart the end of the tube in which the compass is concealed, and look in the other end at the compass. When the compass comes near to the black heart, the needle will be attracted by the blades.) John and Henry have the black hearts. Boys, open your coats and show the people your hearts. Now, if I, an ordinary person, could find a way to look in this tube and know the color of each heart, do you not think it will be a simple matter for the Lord Jesus Christ, who knows everything, to tell the condition of the heart when He sits on His throne in judgment? Objects: Two large legal-sized en velopes, two letter-sized envelopes, two Roman numeral Ill’s, a piece of red crayon, a small cardboard cross, and a pair of scissors. (Cut down both sides and across the bottom of one of the large envelopes. Discard the irregular ^ialf of the envelope, keep ing the complete side that bears the flap. Insert this side and flap in the uncut envelope with the gummed portion in the normal position for sealing the envelope. This will make a partition in the envelope. Put one of the Roman numerals between the insert and the back. However, before doing this, make five red marks on the center upright of the Roman numeral III. Then stick the flaps to gether. Put the other Roman numeral in the front compartment of this envelope. On the front of this en velope print the word “HEAVEN.” Prepare the small envelopes in like manner. Mark the front with the word “GRAVE.” Seal the flaps to gether without putting anything in the back compartment. Make thé Roman numerals by using two pieces of yellow paper 3% x 5 inches. Fold in thirds making the size I%x5 inches. Now cut out a Roman numeral I with upright % inch wide, and crossbar % inch deep. Leave folded and place in the front compartment of the large envelope.) Lesson: This large e n v e l o p e is marked "HEAVEN.” When you think of Heaven, whom do you consider as being at home there? "God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit.” Yes, the Trinity should claim our PAGE FORTY-FOUR
