Religious Experience and the Knowledge of God offers an introduc- tion to the complex topic of religious experience and its viability as support for Christian belief, lending credibility to the Christian claim that experiences support our beliefs and actions. Harold Netland explores from a philosophical and theological perspective the viability of divine encounters as support for belief in God, arguing that some religious experiences can be accepted as gen- uine experiences of God and can provide evidence for Christian beliefs. The book also draws out the implications of religious experience for Christian witness, missiology, and apologetics in today’s globalizing and religiously diverse world. HAROLD A. NETLAND (PhD, Claremont Graduate University) is professor of philosophy of religion and intercultural studies at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, where he has taught for more than twenty-five years. He previously served as a missionary in Japan and taught at Tokyo Christian University. He is the author or coauthor of numerous books, including Christianity and Religious Diversity , Encountering Religious Pluralism , and Buddhism: A Christian Explora- tion and Appraisal . He is also the coeditor of Globalizing Theology and Handbook of Religion .
