A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 10
This week we had our Interhouse Benchball Competition which took place on Monday after school. Each form had 15 representatives that competed. This was a fab competition and it was great to see Year 10 getting so enthusiastically involved, especially staying after school to volunteer to play. 10FWD took top place, winning the competition with 10PGU coming second. Well done to all that took part!
This week we have launched the new library bookmark competition with the winning entries being printed and distributed in the library. Prizes include vouchers and ePraise points.
Well done to 10PGU for getting the most epraise points so far this year. In second place we have 10ERU and in third 10SPI. A lot can happen before the end of this half-term so I would encourage everyone to keep earning those epraise points! Students are reminded that they need to bring a chromebook everyday to school which is fully charged. If students borrow from the school then they either need to have a yellow ‘borrowing’ card or a green ‘repair’ card if their chromebook is getting fixed.
Have a good week!
MRS PORTEOUS, HEAD OF YEAR 10
BOOK OF THE MONTH
‘The Hunger Games’ by Suzanne Collins
In a dystopian future, the capital holds annual games where one boy and one girl (aged 12-18) from each of the 12 districts is chosen to fight to the death in an arena. The games are televised and shown across the country as a reminder to the labourers in the district that they are powerless against the capital. When Katniss’ sister has her name called during the annual reaping, Katniss volunteers to take her place as a daring act of sacrifice. The contrast between the glamour of the capital and the harsh conditions of the districts is an eye opening com- mentary on the dangers of political corruption and capitalism.
