Named for a powerful piece of French artillery, this sparkling classic is far more charming than its military inspiration. Bright citrus and gin are lifted by chilled Champagne, creating a drink that feels festive without trying too hard. It is equally suited to a sailboat at sunset or a terrace overlooking the Riviera. Ingredients 1 oz gin ½ oz freshly squeezed lemon juice ½ oz simple syrup 3 oz chilled Champagne Garnish: lemon twist Instructions Fill a shaker with ice. Add gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Shake until well chilled. Strain into a chilled flute. Top with Champagne. Garnish with a slim twist of lemon.
