Ashamed of Jesus I That dear Friend On whom my hopes of heaven depend 1 N o; when I blush, be this my shame, That I no more revere His name. Ashamed of Jesus 1 Yes, I may, When I’ve no guilt to wash away; No tear to wipe, no good to crave, No fears to quell, no soul to save. Till then, nor is my boasting vain, Till then I boast a Saviour slain; And oh, may this my glory be That Christ is not ashamed of me ! —J oseph G rigg . Lesson T ext: Mark 9:2-8, 17, 18, 2S-29. Golden T ext : ' “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we be held his glory, the glory as of the only be gotten of the Father,) full o f grace and truth” (John 1:14). Mount Hermon ince earliest times, tradition has p i placed the site of the transfiguration T upon Mount Tabor, whose round, dome-like summit rises from the Plain of Esdraelon about ten or twelve miles east of Nazareth. The Roman Catholics are at present erecting a magnificent church ment to a glorious event. In spite o f tradition and the pious hopes o f present-day worshipers, it is quite likely that the transfiguration took place upon Mount Hermon, rather than upon Mount Tabor. Jesus had been in Caesarea Phil ippi, at the foot o f Mount Hermon, just six days before. It is true that He and His disciples could have walked to Tabor in that length of time, but it is not likely. Furthermore, Mount Tabor was crowned with a fortified city in Jesus’ time, which makes it still more unlikely that He would have gone there to be transfigured. The country around Caesarea Philippi is much more wild and uninhabited, and there are several spurs o f Mount Hermon, as well as the summit itself, to which Jesus might have gone at the time He was transfigured before His disciples. At any rate, \ye like to think of Mount Hermon as the site o f the transfiguration, for it is much more grand and impressive. Its snow-covered summit, rising almost ten thousand feet above sea level, com mands a view of almost the entire Holy Land. From the spot of His glorification, Christ could look out over that land which some day He was to rule. It was to reject and crucify Him now, but some day He would reign over it in the glory with which He was now transfigured. Outline and Exposition I. T he P erfect H umanity of J esus (2-8). 1.
