HOMILETICAL HELPS Chosen— Created— Complete T HESE three words tell what is ours in Christ. They should be unspeakably precious to every child of God. They will be in glory when we dwell with Him above, but they ought to be so now in the days of our sojourn on the earth. If we entered in to their true meaning and gained some real insight into the wonders wrapped up in them, how much more fragrant and fruit ful our lives would become 1 I. Chosen in Christ (Eph. 1 :14). Not only the saints to whom Paul wrote, but every member of the church, was chosen in Him before the founda tion of the w orld. . . Even the future, however far on one may imagine it, is as clear to Him as the present . . . . Knowing all about us ere we had being, God chose us in Christ, not because of any goodness in ourselves, for we had none, but “because the Lord loved you.” II. Created in Christ (Eph. 2:10). We are “created in Christ Jesus unto good works.” Out of Adam into Christ . . . We are made anew, the new man being created in righteousness and true holiness. Notice how, in both passages, the dirine purpose is kept steadily in view .. “ that we should.” III. Complei,' in Christ (Col. 2:10). “Ye are complete in him.” Note the “are.” It is not “can be” or even “shall be,” but ye are complete in H im .... Chosen, created, complete: but all in Christ! W e are forever linked to the Lord Jesus Christ, and every blessing flows from Him. Nothing iH ourselves, we have all in Him. —H. A rthur W oolley . God’s Plan for His Children R omans 8 :28 1. Its Inclusiveness—“all;”j£',j 2. Its Naturalness—“things.” 3. Its Activity—“work.” 4. Its Unity—“together.” 5. Its Graciousness—“ for good.” 6. Its Condition—“to them t h a t l o v e ■ God.” —S elected . “Redeeming the Time” E phesians S :16 I. Separation (Eph. 5:11-14). II. Communion. 1. In the Word (Psa. 119:105). 2. In prayer (Psa. 25:9). 3. In the Spirit’s touch (Eph. 5: 17, 18). III. Adoration (Eph. 5:19, 20). IV. Ministration (Col. 4:5, 6; Col. 3:16, 17; Prov. 11:30). —G race and T ruth . Christ and the Samaritan Woman J ohn 4:1-14 Our Lord won this woman by four steps: 1. Attracting the heart (vs. 4-9). 2. Arresting the soul (vs. 10-15). 3. Arousing the conscience (vs. 16-24). 4. Alluring the soul (vs. 25-30). —B eliever ’ s M agazine . Believers’ Hearts 1. Worshipful Hearts (1 Pet. 3:15). 2. Heedful Hearts (2 Pet. 1 :19). 3. Peaceful Hearts (Col. 3:15; Phil. 4: 6, 7). 4. Loving Hearts (1 Tim. 1:5; 1 Pet. 1 : 22 ). 5. Prayerful Hearts (2 Tim. 2:22). 6. Pure Hearts (Matt. 5:8, 28). 7. Melodious Hearts (Eph. 5:19; Col. 3; 16). 8. Expectant Hearts (2 Thess. 3 :5). 9. Dutiful Hearts (Col. 3:22). —G race and T ruth .

heart’s appreciation of the atoning death of His own Son on the cross, in raising Him from among the dead by His almighty, life-giving, liberating, glorious power, as the eternal Conqueror over Satan, sin, death, hell, and the grave. We behold Him now “in adoring gratitude,” with the marks of Calvary in His hands and side, in resur rection glory.—J ohn F. G ray . He lives 1 We joy to sing O f His almighty power; To Him our tribute bring Who triumphed in that hour When hosts of hell His soul assailed, The Prince o f Life o’er death prevailed. —F. J. A tkinson . GIRLS’ QUERY CORNER [Continued from page 96] similar passages suggest that prayer is a real work and warfare?! They show our need of real courage, effort, perseverance, and faith. In prayer, we “wrestle", . . against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world.” We invade Satan’s realm. He is not concerned about the one who “ says prayers.” But he knows when one is'pray ing effectually, and he will do his utmost to hinder. Let us heed the admonitions: “ Put on the whole armour of God” ; “Take the sword of the Spirit . . . praying al ways” ; and let us remember that we are in a real warfare, and that Christ -is our vic tory. Even though you must neglect some service and stay on your knees: for hours pleading the blood and looking to the Lord Jesus Christ for victory, do not give way to Satan in this matter. This victory must be yours if your service is to be effective, and if you are to do exploits for God. It is victory that must be won. again and again, for Satan will not give up easily; but, remember, each victory will strengthen you for another. THE TROUBLOUS WORLD [Continued from page 88] Palestine—that is the unfailing index fin ger, pointing to a group of events, a crisis, and the coming back of our Lord Jesus. He comes to save the race from itself, to clear the crisis, and to begin the new blessed order of things on this dear old earth. The practical upshot of the whole thing is simply this: That we, each of us, live true to our Lord Jesus where He has put u s; that we go our daily round, doing faith fully the day’s work, with a gracious word and a warm hand for our fellows; and that we keep in warm touch of heart with the Man on the throne, with the open Book, and the knee bent, actually and in spirit. For this pushes nearer on the calendar His return. For living true makes the evil around us intenser by counteraction. So we help Him to hasten the expectant day and intervention. The present day is an intense plea to the follower of our Lord Jesus. The world-up set, in all its terrific intensity, is a plea that we live true. This world depression and unrest is a calling, to us, an unconscious, indirect, unin tentional calling for each of us to be true to our Lord, and so to our fellows and to ourselves. May we, down here in the fog-storm, not fail that expectant Man on the edge o f the throne! Though it is not for us to go to heaven in a chariot o f fire as did Elijah, we can live here with the fire of heaven in our hearts.—T he B ible T oday .
