Requiring a delicate balance between preserving historical authenticity and incorporating modern sustainability practices, historical restorations are essential for maintaining the island of Ireland’s architectural heritage and cultural identity. SMET’s pre-mixed lime renders and plasters and NHL binders have been used to restore and repair old and historic buildings across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Among the range it supplies is a traditional mortar designed to restore internal and external walls affected by saltpetre and dampness, Tradilys Protect damp treatment plaster. WHY USE TRADILYS PROTECT DAMP TREATMENT PLASTER? • Natural hydraulic lime mortar without cement • Formulation adapted to the treatment of salts • Very low capillary absorption allowing rapid evaporation of humidity • Reduced consumption (coverage from 50cm above humidity) • Mechanical resistance adapted to heritage construction Ideally suited to treating salts (chlorides, nitrates and sulfates) and with very low capillary absorption, it facilitates rapid evaporation of water. Its specific admixture enhances flexibility and creaminess, making it easy to use for

both manual and mechanical applications, giving it flexibility and smoothness. Its reduced consumption is also an advantage (coverage from 50cm above traces of moisture), with a CS II compressive strength, making it perfectly suited to old buildings. WHAT IS SALTPETRE? Saltpetre describes efflorescence, which is a white, powdery salt deposits that appears on walls due to rising damp or moisture issues. These salts come from the ground or building materials and are drawn to the surface by evaporating water. HOW SALTPETRE AFFECTS WALLS • It appears as white, powdery or crusty deposits on brick, stone or plaster surfaces. • It is caused by moisture carrying dissolved salts to the wall surface. • It can damage paint, plaster and masonry over time. • It often signals underlying damp problems, such as rising damp or penetrating damp. IDEAL APPLICATIONS By choosing Tradilys Protect, construction industry professionals can ensure their projects benefit from both modern innovation and time-honoured building traditions.
