Newry firm Cunningham has been awarded two significant contracts by Louth County Council for the construction of social housing developments. One project in Greenhills, Drogheda, involves the construction of sheltered accommodation comprising 45 single-storey, two-bedroom homes and one single-storey, five-bedroom community house. To be completed using timber-frame construction, the scope of works will include development of new roads, parking spaces, landscaping, essential infrastructure and sustainable technologies including air-source heat pumps and photovoltaic panels. A second project in Mullavally, Louth Village, will include 58 new social housing units including single- and two- storey houses featuring from two to five bedrooms. Also constructed using modern timber-framed techniques, the project will include new cycleways, footpaths and public lighting. CHOICE LAUNCHES £6M ANNUAL PLANNED MAINTENANCE FRAMEWORK
One of Northern Ireland’s largest housing associations, Choice, has established a new multi-supplier planned maintenance framework supporting tenants, businesses and local employment. With an estimated value of £6m per year, the framework supports Choice’s asset management strategy over a two-year period and covers redecoration as well as replacement of kitchens, bathrooms, roofs, doors and windows. Two contractors have been appointed to the framework, with Hetherington Painting and Building Contractors covering the association’s north region and
the Bell Group servicing its south region properties. Choice has also completed an energy-efficiency retrofit at its homes in Belfast’s Finaghy Road North and Riverdale Park South, in partnership with McCusker Contracts and Moore MacDonald and Partners. Part of a larger programme of works totalling investment of £16m, the retrofit has improved the homes’ Energy Performance Certificate rating from Band D to A. It included external wall, floor and loft insulation and installation of triple-glazed windows, mechanical ventilation systems and solar PV panels. www.choice-housing.org
