PROJECT PROFILE

DEVENISH COLLEGE, ENNISKILLEN

ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION

JOINERY A range of joinery services was supplied by McLaughlin Roofing and Joinery at Devenish College in Enniskillen. With the project delayed by the pandemic, Director Declan McLaughlin’s involvement spanned first- and second-fix joinery delivered over a two-year period. Included in the installation were roof joists, fly rafters, flat roofing and modular windows. With the school comprising three buildings stepped down a hill with multiple roof levels, complex joinery solutions were required. However, with meticulous planning alongside Glasgiven Contracts, the project ran smoothly for McLaughlin Roofing and Joinery, which has partnered previously with the main contractor on Rossmar Special School in Limavady. “They’re a very good outfit to work with,” said Declan. “The foreman managed the site well and was a great support. We hope to be their joinery partner on many more projects in the future.” A small roofing and joinery company based in Omagh, McLaughlin Roofing and Joinery has been in operation for approximately 15 years, working across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

A supplier of electrical and mechanical contracting, as well as street and flood lighting services, Braham Group delivered a complete electrical fit out at the school. Representing a sizable contract for the firm, the project raised challenges such as pandemic-related delays to the schedule and materials supply, as well as opportunities for innovation. With its electrical fit out spanning 11,400sqm of floorspace, the complex project encompassed switchgear, power, lighting and life safety systems including CCTV and fire, disabled refuge and intruder alarms. The electrical contractor coordinated a team of 25 on site at any one time. Standout services include multipurpose stage lighting and audio-visual systems for the school’s music and theatre productions, external lighting for the car parks and pathways, and addressable self-test emergency lighting. Matt Beattie, Contracts Manager at Braham Group, said, “The emergency lighting system included central management software which can monitor each individual emergency light to establish its condition and battery health. This provides the school with the ability to review the emergency lighting installation in a simple and less time-consuming manner.”
